Spain is an amazing place to travel. It’s a country with excellent food, beautiful architecture and a language that is relatively easy to learn. English is also widely spoken in Spain and they are used to tourists. Here are some of my favourite holiday destinations in Spain, including Barcelona, Tenerife and Ibiza.
- Barcelona
Barcelona is the capital city of Catalunya. You will find that Catalan is widely spoken as well as Spanish and English. The art and Architecture in Barcelona is phenomenal. Don’t miss La Sagrada Familia, Casa Batllo and the Picasso Museum. There are a number of funicular rides that will take you to the top of hills to visit astounding castles, monasteries and Churches. The tapas and wine is out of this world – check out Canete just off La Rambla for an amazing meal. This is one of my top cities in the world!
- Tenerife
Tenerife is my favourite Spanish holiday island. Go shopping in Santa Cruz, head out to sea in a Banana boat on Playa de Las Americas or check out the street art of Puerto de la Cruz. If you are feeling up to it then a cycle or hike up Mount Tiede is highly recommended. Being located in the Canary Islands means that Tenerife has amazing weather all year round – it even makes for a good winter holiday.

- Malaga
The seaside destination of Malaga in the Costa del Sol is a popular destination with many travellers. It’s a chilled out and artistic city. Fans of Picasso will find a Picasso Museu here too as well as the one in Barcelona! There are two citadels that you cannot miss. Looking to explore the region? Take a day tour to Ronda or Gibraltar.
- Grenada
Granada in the South of Spain is famous for the Alhambra palace, one of the finest examples of Moorish architecture in the region. It’s the most important surviving building from the period of Islamic rule in Iberia (Spain and Portugal). If you are looking for a bit more adventure then consider a day trip island hopping or into the countryside on a Spanish 4 X 4, both of these are doable from Grenada.
- Ibiza
If you are looking for the best party scene in Spain then head to Ibiza for a week if clubbing and boat parties! It’s also a great destination for water sports including jet skiing, kayaking and Stand Up Paddle boarding. Head to Ibiza Old Town for a spot of history and architecture. If you’re a hiker then take a trip to hike up Sa Talaria to get an amazing panoramic view of the whole island.
Whatever you are looking for, whether that’s food, hiking, architecture or clubbing, Spain will always deliver something for everyone! Just remember not to overdo it on the wine and Tapas! It’s a country that I return to again and again.
