Some of the best activities in Mallorca have nothing to do with sun, sea and sand. There are many things to do besides go to the beach. Mallorca is a very popular holiday destination and there are many activities for visitors of all ages: families, couples or groups of friends.

    The Best Activities in Mallorca

It is difficult to choose just five activities in Mallorca, but this is our selection of the best activities in Mallorca that really should not be missed.

The Best Boat Trips in Mallorca

In summer, boat trips are probably the most popular activities in Mallorca, as the weather is ideal for spending a day at sea, plus being a Mediterranean island and surrounded by sea, there are a great many boat trips and catamaran excursion to secluded coves, excellent beaches and with amazing views.

There are boat trips departing from all the different ports of Mallorca in summertime and every resort has plenty to offer. A great value for money option is a catamaran tour of around five hours with swim stops, gorgeous landscape, a chance to snorkel or kayak and normally with food and drink included. Families with small children may prefer a shorter boat ride on a glass bottom boat where the kids can look through the glass in the lower deck and try to spot the fishes.

Our favorite boat trip is a half day tour on a traditional wooden Mallorcan fishing boat for a maximum of 12 passengers. Food and drinks are included and there are loads of opportunities for swimming in the best of Mallorca’s secret coves. The captain will give you plenty of options for water activities on the excursion, with the chance to snorkel, kayak or try stand up paddle.

    Visit a Market in Mallorca

Every town and village of Mallorca has its weekly market day and, on your holidays, a fun thing to do is to be a local for a morning and go and do some shopping at the local market. The less touristy the town, the more authentic the market will be. It is a great experience to watch the hustle and bustle of a market in Mallorca, with the local people chatting with friends, buying their weekly produce and stopping at one of the typical bars for their breakfast or a coffee.

Some of the bigger markets, such as Sineu Market, Inca Market or Alcudia Market are more touristy and offer a great chance to buy unique gifts and souvenirs to take home. Often at these bigger markets there is entertainment in the form of live music and activities for the children.

    Top Family Activities in Mallorca

Mallorca has a wonderful offering of family activities, with great theme parks, tours and boat trips.

One very popular activity in Mallorca for families is to take the children dolphin spotting on an early morning boat trip. Watching the wild dolphins swim and jump in the sea from the boat is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Other great things to do in Mallorca for families are to spend a day at one of the many parks, such as Katmandu Park, Marin eland, Palma Aquarium or one of the water parks. These theme parks in Mallorca have activities and shows for all ages, making it a great day out for the whole family. Katmandu Park has the famous upside down fun house which you can explore and join in all the activities inside. Marineland has a dolphin show, a sea lion show and a parrot show. Palma Aquarium is the place to visit if you want to learn about sea life from all over the world, plus they have the deepest and most impressive shark tank in Europe.

    Mallorca Bus Tours

There is so much to see and do in Mallorca that it would be a shame to stay in just one area during your entire holiday. A bus tour is a great way to discover more of the island without having to worry about where to park or how to get there.

There are four very popular bus tours in Mallorca:

    1. To the Caves of Drach. These magnificent caves are famous for being home to the largest subterranean lake in Europe: Lake Martel. During the visit to the Caves of Drach, as well as marvelling at the stalactites, stalagmites and stunning rock formations, you can enjoy a music concert and light show by the lake.
    2. To Palma City. One of the top activities in Mallorca is spending a day strolling around Palma, the capital of the Balearic Islands. Steeped in history, on your tour you will be able to step back in time in the old quarter, where you can explore an incredible number of churches, the majestic cathedral, the Almudaina Palace and the Arab Baths. You will also be able to enjoy a tasty lunch at one of Palma’s many restaurants and to spend a few hours shopping in Palma’s cosmopolitan centre.
    3. To the Serra de Tramuntana. There are many activities you can do in Mallorca’s Tramuntana Mountain area and, if you take a bus tour, you will be able to do many of them on the same day. Take a ride on the vintage Soller railway on a unique wooden train that takes you through the tunnels in the mountains. Feel the breeze on your face as you journey between Soller and Puerto Soller on the tram. Drive (without actually having to drive yourself) down the “snake road” to Sa Calobra, where you will have some of the best views of your holiday and will be able to explore the breathtaking Torrent de Pareis Gorge. Or spend your day at some of the beautiful mountain villages such as Valldemossa and Deia.
    4. To the Formentor Peninsula. Formentor is the very northern tip of Mallorca and is where some of the most breathtaking natural scenery is found. A bus tour to Formentor will allow you to discover the famous Formentor Beach as well as stopping at various viewpoints to marvel at the stunning landscape.

    Water Parks

There are several water parks in Mallorca, the largest and most famous being Aqualand, located in Arenal and Western Park, located in Magaluf. These two water parks offer some of the most thrilling activities in Mallorca, with the numerous kamikaze slides, wave pools, lazy rivers and much much more. A visit to a water park in Mallorca in summer is a must for families, friends, and people of all ages.
